Course and time
Hi
Can anybody tell me if the FAI course is slower or faster than the Q500 course? Also what times are average for 46 powered Quickies.

Both courses are stationary and do not move.
Both courses are the same length. 0.40 km or 0.25 miles (Around once)
The FAI course is slightly shorter at #1 pylon but wider at the #2 & #3 pylons than the Q500 course.
The airplanes used in each event are totally different. The F3D airplanes are faster than the Q500 airplanes. There is about a six second time difference between the fastest time recorded for F3D and that for Q500. That is not a lot when you consider that Q500 (AMA 428) is a buy it and fly it event while F3D is solid work and effort.

RE: Course and time
What I was getting at, is if the same type of plane is flown on the two different courses, would the lap times be the same, due to the wider base on the FAI course.
As we had a Q500 race meet here in New Zealand on Saturday. The planes are 46 powered on 10% nitro fuel and the best time was 1.35.9, how does this compare with the times in the US.

Geoff,
I cannot answer that question. We do not use the FAI course and .46 size engines are not used that much here for racing. Maybe at club level racing there is some use, so hopefully one of those competitors can enlighten us.

Hello
Here in Finland we fly on FAI course. The Q500 record is 78s (Whit Super Tigre Q500 engine 40% nitro).
Next season we alow to use Nelson Q500 engines, I think the time will be mutch better.

Tigres work well, and long time whit 40% nitro. Only problem is tigres "muffler" there is resonance pipe inside the muffler and it broke easy.
8,5 x 7,5N APC prop 19500 rpm on the ground.
20% kotz oil
40% nitro
40% methanol
