Beginners questions?
I have read the rules for 424 but have a question on the motor size.
What is the standard motor for a typical 424 race. Is it set by the individual race?
In one set of rules - I see - 40 size engine max - no ball bearings and then I also see .46 engines with Ball bearings listed as 424.
I am building a Seeker - taking my time - and would like to pick out a legal 424 motor - if I don't already have one.
Also - What is a good source for a Seeker wing kit? I have ordered the fuse kit.
Any sugestions?

RE: Beginners questions?
The Thunder Tiger Pro .40 is the standard 424 engine... As far as a wing goes you can get one from Bill Vargus if he's still doing them.. You can also check with SuperTrc.com and see if they have them available yet.

pbunn,
Suggest you contact Don Stegal, he lives in SC. You will find lots of info by and about him and also about various racing programs at www.rcpro.com.
People all over the country are coming up with alternatives to the standard 424 rules. I've not compared NMPRA rules to AMA rules, but they should be the same, because NMPRA is the "Special Interest Group" affiliated with AMA. Anything else is something else. Would help is they did not call it 424. It is accepted to do "424 with a twist", as long as the twist is spelled out in all advertising.
Back when I was a computer guru, we had a saying: "If it is not the same, it is different!"
Because of the different "beginner" racing schemes, you need to check with the people running the contests.
Our club is one of those using a different scheme. We use the OS .40 LA for one class and any other .40, with a $100.00 claim option, for another class. I have found that the bolt holes on the .40 LA and the TT .40 Pro allow switching the engines on the same plane. Higly Brass hubs and nuts on the LA solve the balance problem.
Have fun,
Ken, AMA 19352

RE: Beginners questions?
pbunn,
Where did you see that .46 engines with Ball bearings were listed as 424?
I know that in other foreign countries they use that size ie. New Zealand etc., but I haven't seen that one yet in the states. Not that it is not done, I'm just curious who's using them or what website you saw that on out of interest?
I think the TT.40 is the engine most are using but agree with everyone else, see what they're using in your area.

RE: Beginners questions?
Probably saw the .46 Ball Bearings at our groups website:
www.ncplracing.org
That is what we use up here in the North.
We call it NCPL 500 to avoid confusion. We also run the short course and allow any prop.

RE: Beginners questions?
It may have been that site. I was just confused as I have been searching quite a few sites and it appeared that .46 engines were being allowed in 424. I think I have it properly explained now and almost understand..
Is the standard engine for 424 the TT Pro (with Ball Bearings) or the cheaper GP40 with sleave bearings?

RE: Beginners questions?
pbunn down here in Texas. We use tt 40 pros , on a vipper . from year to year it has changed. A few years back we were using Tower .46 on the old pred. To answer you question you will need to find a club nearer you and see what everybody there will agree on.
