Default US 41 Power and tach readings

I am new to gas engines so I am not familiar with their power output. I have a US 41 and yesterday I took some tach measurements. With an 18x10 Zinger I got about 6900 at the top end and an idle of 1600 rpm. Does this sound right? I would like to know if it is producing the power it should. Also, I noticed there is a baffle in the muffler. Will I get more power by removing it or switching to a different muffler?

Thanks,
Brian

Moderator, could you please move this thread to the gas engine discussion forum?

Thank you

Hi Brian,

For a new engine those figures are right on with the prop you are using. After about 3-4 gallons of fuel you should be turning around 7200. You can pick up a couple hundred more RPM by switching to a Q-52 Carb (Walbro 144) and a B&B muffler. Mine turns an 18-10 ProZinger at 7450 and yanks my 15LB G-Shark around pretty well! Not a 3D Demon but lots of fun! Check it out at http://www.quiknet.com/~pheller

Hi, I also had a quadra 42 that ws in a crash, and half of the carb mounting flange broke off. I took it to a local welder, and he used a heli-arc welder and welded it back on, and now it works as good as new, and only cost me 20 bucks!!! I was glad to have it fixed, as the engine only had about 5 flights on it when it crashed. Hope this helps.
