Default The New HobbyPoxy Hardener WORKS

After a day of curing I soaked a rag with pure Acrylic Lacquer Thinner and rubbed hard on the three test patches that I had made. They were mixes of 1/1,2/1,and 3parts paint to 1 part hardener. Nothing happened, and from this IMHO they had curred to a hard finish. Now for the good news , the Hardener is available. The cost is ~ $15.00 for a pint which at 2/1 will harden 4 full cans of HobbyPoxy. I used Sherwin-Williams auto
Acrylic Lacquer Reducer for thinner and cleanup but this is only available in 1 Gal. cans.($21.00) with an additional $10.00 charge for hazmat shipping. The bright side is that the hardener has a thinner that you can ger in Qts. that can be shipped. The source is

Norn Douthit Aero
167 W. 49th St.
San Bernardino,Ca.,92407
888-811-2232/909-883-2232

the product is
Epoxy Primer Catalyst
part no EP-430

You can also ask about which thinner is compatable with the catalyst.

When you mix the paint and hardener I would start out with no more that 20% thinner and see haw it strays. Then add more thinner as and if required.
Good luck
Bob Q.
P.S.
The same applies to the old K&B epoxy paint. I use some HobbyPoxy hardener and the paint cured with no problems.

I forgot to mention the mix ratio.
The standard that the mfg. recomends is 2 parts paint to 1 part hardener.
I tried 1/1 and it had a very short cure time.
I also tried 3/1 and that worked also, but with a longer cure time.
All the test patches had cured overnight.
And at 3/1 the remainder left in the mixing cup had just started to thicken the next morning.
I had not mixed any thinner with the 3 tests that I ran, since I brushed them on, and the cleanup was easy with the acrylic lacquer reducer.
If you have and questions I will try to answer them.

I used the Epoxy Primer Catalyst EP-430 for the hardener at 2 parts paint to 1 part Catalyst . The first post has the phone no. for a source of the EP-430 which will replace the no longer availabe Part B,as a hardener for HobbyPoxy
