Default Compatibility of Different Mfrs Retract Servos?

Does anyone know whether my airtronics retract servo will work with my Spektrum receiver? I understand that I will need to make an adapter servo cable to convert airtronics connector to JR I just don't know if the signal is compatible. Thanks.[&:]

How old is your Airtronics retract servo?
Don't recall exactly when, but Airtronics changed their connectors and polarity to the same as Futaba / Hitec / JR more than 5 years ago.

(I have a few Airtronics radios from '03 - '05 that have "Standard" connectors and center positive polarity same as Hitec / JR )

Watch your voltage on your retract servo as well...the JR 791 doesn't like 6V very much for one

I have servos 25 years old that I put new connecters on and they work just fine on my Spectrum.

The airtronics retract servo I have (don't know the model number at this instant) is from the late 80s. I thought I had heard that the older airtronics don't play well with futaba, JR, etc. From other posts here it appears that newer airtronics servos are compatible now. Thanks for the reply.

That servo will have what is often referred to as an 'Old Style Airtonnics plug'. It uses #3 pin positive and the current polarity is exactly opposite of the all the current servo plugs which includes the current Airtronics 'Z' plug. All modern servos are centerpin positve.

The old plugs are black in color and the new and compatible 'Z' plugs are always blue in color never black.

You can choose to cut and reverse the wires, reverse the wires by pushing the pins out however this also requires careful filing of the plug to fit or replace with modern Z plugs completely.

The easiest method but perhaps pricey is to buy adapter connectors (old Airtronnics to Z).

Also remember this is a retract servo they are not proportional. Once you start them in motion they will continue in motion untill either stalled or the travel a full 190 degrees or so. Setting endpoints with a retract servo will not work, they function full travel only.
