I have a .72 Magnum Four Stroke Engine mounted sideways/down on a piper cub. The engine worked fine up until the last time i tried to fly it. After setting the mixture on the ground, i would lift the nose high to check for stall at full throttle. The engine will run fora few seconds then flame out suddenly. I have remixed many times and it always does thesame thing.I reset the valves to spec and it has not helped atall. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i should try next? I run 15% nitro with 16% Castor oil.

I would guess the same thing as Mike about the bent line. I'm also going with Steve on the oil, I'm betting you are using wild cat. I tried it and it was OK with the 16% oil but it was really playing on my mind so I started adding 2 ounces of Klotz oil in every new gallon. If nothing else it gave me the piece of mind I needed. Doesn't sound like much because I usually use power master that is 18%oil but 16 just didn't seem like enough.

I'll add another vote for the fuel line being slung forward and not getting enough gas in nose up position (she's going very lean). Also, add some oil another 2-3%. You can use either a synthetic or just add more castor.

I use Wildcat fuel also. The fuse of my planes are always slimy-oil covered after flying. Is this not indicating that sufficient oil is going through the engine providing lubrication ?
I can visibly see the oil droplets coming out of the muffler when running.
EDIT:
Went out and checked my wildcat fuel. The oil content is 18% . This is last years fuel i'm using up. This would give the oily-slimy fuse with the extra 2% ?
The "New" fuel I'll be using after this is used up is 16% oil Wildcat (obtained from the Toledo air show). How many ounces of oil would I have to add to a gallon of fuel to bring up to 18% total oil content ?
I still have 4 gallons of 18% oil before I start using the 16% oil.
Thanks
Cary

Just about 2 1/2 oz. of oil (75ml.) will bring a full gallon of 16% fuel to an 18% oil content.

I use the stuff in the top you posted. Not for any real great reason other then I have some I use in my gas engines. I do not tune an engine to a smoke trail but I fly with a few fellows that will fatten up an engine until it looks like it's on fire and think they have it in correct tune. Not all fuels and not all blends will leave the good old smoke trail. Fuels have improved a lot over the years and there blends may not have a lot of Castor in it. When I started adding the two ounces of Klotz to my fuel I did get that good old smoke trail and it made the old farts very happy to see it. Keeping the peanut gallery quiet is just another small bonus.
If I have 18% oil in my blended fuel I don't ever add anything to it at all.

I've never used Beano but it looks ok. I've generally got the other problem..... the fuel comes with 16% synthetic or a synthetic/castor blend so I just add 2% castor. 18% total oil should be fine unless the engine manufacturer specifies otherwise. But check the engine specs- I figure the folks who design engines know more about it than I do (and a lot more than most of the peanut gallery at the field).
