After reading this thread, I would say that Greyhound is a thieves delight because by the time they make an attempt to find it, the thief/thieves have already sold the item.

I had same problem.... Went to greyhound on a wim and there it was. They never bothered to call.... Lets not forget that this is the lowest priced and lowest class way to travel. The people who work there really dont care. I have shipped with greyhound with success but man I was forced to ride one home from Vegas to Tacoma wa..... I was vacationing when the twin towers were hit on 9/11. Worst travel expeirience ever..... If it ever happens again I will rent the 27' moving truck from uhaul and just drive home!

I stumbled upon this post today and once I started I had to finish I’m only sorry I didn’t see it earlier so I could have been commenting all the way through. ☺ And I’m sorry it isn’t settled yet.

I just want to let you know my sympathies are with you. I haven’t gone through this particular scenario, but (Sparing you the details) I had a problem with a moving company which cost me over $4000 because they chose not to deliver a third of my household goods and after contacting every agency I could think of, I found out with moving companies you have absolutely NO legal recourse against them for neglect or lying. I kept trying to get either my things or reimbursement until the statute of limitations ran out.
So things could be worse.

I will say, as a buyer, if I refused insurance and my item was lost I would just chalk it up to stupidity on my part and kick myself for not getting the insurance. I would never think of trying to punish the seller because my item was lost.
You went above and beyond what is expected of a seller, and the other guy is clearly in the wrong. As far as I am concerned ( I don’t know what the law says) your responsibility ended when you dropped it off for shipping. It’s strange how often people just trying to do the right thing end up being the ones having to suffer.

Concerning what someone else said,
>>
I Have ordered things before that got lost in the mail, and guess who ended up with nothing? It wasn’t the place I ordered from. I really don’t think Tower would give you your money back if you didn’t receive their package. They would probably do just what you are doing and try to find it, but refund because it was lost in the mail? Nope, sorry.

Anyway, I just want to say, Denny. You have done more than most people would do, and I hope it all works out. I’ll keep following this thread.

Wow, another example of the package just sitting there, at the end waiting for the person to pick it up. The more I hear this, the less I feel like worrying about it. I know the buyer has seen this thread. I have asked at least 3 times if the buyer went to the bus station to see if the package was there and I have not had one response to the question.
Anyone have any idea why someone would not want to drive to the bus station or why they wouldnt respond to this simple question? Three times I asked , and not once an answer to that question. Somethings fishy here. I am thinking I might contact Greyhound to send the box back to me when its located. At this point I would rather have the plane than the money. I think they will get another call from me tomorrow.

This will be my 1st time replying to any of the forums but I feel I just had to uphold the honor of Tower Hobbies. I have never, in the 20 years I've been dealing with Tower, ever had a problem that wasn't rectified ASAP. Whether it be damaged goods or lost items. I don't want to start a complaint against Tower thread or hijack this one. I have been following these postings from the start and agree with the statement that if insurance wasn't requested and the seller out of good business sense provided it, without charge to the buyer, and delivered the item to the shipping agent of choice, in a timely manner, has fulfilled his part of the contract above and beyond what is expected or required. I hope you are able to resolve this issue.

The last big item I bought was shipped greyhound (only b/c the seller wouldn't use any other way). It went from Southern New York to where I am in Central Virgnina. I was told it would take 3 days to get to me. It was shipped on a monday. By wed, i was expecting a phone-call from greyhound.. nothing... 3 days later (now saturday).. nothing... I called them, no answer... called 3 hours later.. no answer.. called sunday numerous times. no answer. Rinse/repeat for 3 more days. Exactly 1 week later, I finally get them to answer the phone and ask them about the package. The guys reponse was "oh yea, its been sitting outside our building for a week b/c it was to big to fit through the package door, and your number was disconnected". ***!? The number they had was the same number i was calling them from. It was well under the maximum size they listed, so why wasn't their facility able to handle it? Then when i was on my way to pick it up, I get a phone-call from them asking when I was going to get it, b/c "its in our way". To top it all off, they literally meant "outside" when I got there. It was sitting in an un-covered portion of the bus station... good thing it hadn't rained any for the past week.

Yet more reasons, why i only use truck-freight companies to ship completed/built models.

More emails to the buyer, no response as to going down there to the terminal, I am becoming very suspicious. After asking several times, no answer as far as going there to get it or even see if its there. I went back and read the statement that was made to Paypal;

7/6/2011 12:44 PDT - Buyer: The model was shipped via Greyhound in late May according to the Seller. It never arrived. The Seller says Greyhound has no idea where it is. I would like a refund in full.

Now I feel a bit foolish, possibly because I felt the buyer was acting in good faith but based on the numerous times I asked the buyer to go to the terminal to pick it up or verify at least if it was there, absolutely no response to the many emails asking about this. One time the buyer said he called for an hour and didnt get an answer from the terminal. The other times, at least 3 times I asked, no answer was given to the question. Since the buyer has refused to answer this question, I have to assume he may have changed his mind and doesnt want to go pick up the package. I just dont know what else to think. You cant help someone if they dont want to be helped.
If the buyer never goes to the terminal how would he ever know if the package was there or not? I cant believe I didnt realize this sooner. To me if the buyer hasnt gone there to get the package, he wouldnt know if the package is there or not. Then it would be safe to say that the buyer knowingly made a false statement to Paypal. Since the buyer refuses to answer, I am forced to try to figure this out for myself. I am done chasing this.

What about he wants the plane and the money?
Have this idea crossed your mind?
When I ship something I sell on flee bay I ask for delivery comfirmation, in that way there is no questions whatsoever if the item was received by the buyer or not.

Default RE: Greyhound shipped plane, LOST! , HELP!

The plane could be anywhere. As Greyhound explained to me items shipped with them rarely ever get a direct route. They are shuffled from bus to bus and station to station. The item could be hundreds of miles off track and may take many weeks because as someone else stated they go on as space is available. Now for the Paypal issue. I am not sure how well the buyer or seller protection is for off Ebay purchases but I do know for a fact that any transaction on Ebay that is over $250 must be mailed with signature confirmation or Ebay/Paypal will stand behind buyer and not the seller. I know this for a fact. I sold a guy in Michigan an item and sent it UPS. The tracking number showed it delivered to his house and stated the item was delivered to front door. The buyer filed an item not received case and his total payment of $746 was refunded to him because there was no proof it was actually him that received it. Hidden pages deep under part 3 of section D (or some crazy crap like that) is a clause stating any item over $250 must have signature confirmation. Now the kicker is the day after Paypal refunded his money he filed and item not as described case against me saying there was a bad gear and Paypal refunded his money again. Ebay/Paypal are a bunch of crooks as much as this guy I sold to if you ask me and I have no faith on Paypal at all anymore. Anyway that is my 2 cents and I hope this helps someone who doesn't know about the $250 policy. I hope the plane is found and still intact and undamaged. No one takes pride in their work now days and its just plain sad that there is no customer service and so many crooked people in this world.

I shipped a Top Flite Cessna 310 kit via Greyhound and it was completely destroyed. Lots of turns going through the Sierras and it just got beat up by baggage. Never bothered to file a claim for the reasons depicted in this thread. As for PayPal, I have never been a big fan but they are here to stay. I use them but I get the funds out of PayPal and into my bank ASAP. For debits they default to your bank account but I always force the credit card option. You don't get the bill for 30 days and you may have additional protection through the card company. I know, none of that helps you now but it may be of use in the future . I agree that the box is probably sitting in a station and is being ignored. But you would think they could send out an APB to all stations and resolve the issue in a day.

I have to say that in 20 years of dealing with Tower they have been good to me. Once they shipped a package of small items to me. It weighed 15 pounds. I was watching the tracking. It left IL and went to MD then to NC, then back to MD, then back to NC and back to MD again. I called and they helped me and put a tracer on the package but it didn't work it just kept bouncing from MD to NC. Now every time it bounced the box got lighter! The box was down to 2 pounds when Tower just sent me another box out and I got it in three days. The first box, er, I should say the top of a box with a label on it, came a month later. LOL

I have sent the last scans of emails between the buyer and myself to paypal, here is what is in the Paypal claim status page.
A claims specialist is reviewing your case.

What happens next

We'll contact you with any developments or if we require additional information from you by Jul 27, 2011.

I have provided a total of 11 scanned documents, the first, a scan of the email contract from RC Universe when the plane was sold specifying payment is for the aircraft, landing gear, and shipping via Greyhound, the rest are copies of emails between myself and the buyer. I have sent them everythign I know that might shed some light on what has happened thus far. I actually consider myself a good judge of character. I really dont get the sense that the buyer is trying to do anything other than have his plane delivered to his doorstep. The emails and lack of response to going to the Providence Greyhound terminal is the part that continues to concern me. I hope this is all resolved and its proven that the buyer has been to Greyhound and did attempt to be there to pick up the package. The money is not the major issue for me now. I just want to know what has happened here. Its in Paypals, Greyhounds and the buyers hands now. They are the only ones that can now take action to make this right. I have exhausted all my resources and have done the best I can to get the plane to the buyer.

I just heard from the buyer, he says he has been very busy and hasnt been able to go to the terminal. I do believe he has been very busy, happens to all of us. He says he will go this morning to the terminal to see if the package is there. I dont think he will mind if I post a part of one of his email replies here, it may explain some of the confusion.

OK, part of the problem is now understood.

Greyhound freight goes to the Peter Pan bus terminal in Providence. Fortunately, Peter Pan actually answers the phone.

They checked their baggage claim room and they do NOT have the package.

I will drive to the Greyhound Terminal this morning (mostly to please you since they do not even have a baggage terminal) and verify whether Greyhound has the package.

There is nothing else to be done on this end.

I will let you know.

Buyer

At least we will know if its there or not. If its not there, then its all on Greyhound and Paypal to resolve it. Please, no comments directed towards or about the buyer, I just want this resolved and move on.

I can just see it. He gets up off the big box that's been there a few weeks now. Goes and checks the little self in the janitors closet where they keep the unclaimed packages. Finds nothing. Comes back into the room, sits once again on the big box and says 'Nope, we absolutely don’t have that package in."

I just recieved a call from a great guy offering to help in resolving this issue. Gary Henshaw from GIANT MODEL PRODUCTS just called me and offered a number to a guy he deals with at Greyhound and suggested I call him. Thanks Gary for taking interest and trying to help. I called and left a message at Greyhound corperate in Dallas and hope to hear from them soon. Gary has an account with greyhound and has always had great service with them. I dont doubt that a bit. I started this thread to help others understand this experience and how its handled. I am sure a bit of my frustration has shown up in my posts, I didnt intend for that to happen. And, yes, I poked fun at the guy that might be sitting on my package, its just my way of handling frustration and stress. I heard something Bill Cosby once said that has helped me thru many trying times in my life. What Bill so wisely said was, " If you can laugh at it, you can conquer it". How profound that was, we are all surrounfded by good and bad, its what we choose to focus on thats really important. Focus on the good and you will be surrounded by it, focus on the bad, and you will drown in it ( my own saying), we make the choice of which we want. Thanks again Gary.
I am anxious to hear from the buyer and the person gary helped me contact...
To be continued............

Well, the buyer has done his part and more, he has been to the terminal and looked for the package. I am sure he wont mind if I post his efforts and response here:

Greyhound does not appear to have a single employee based in the state of RI. They outsource everything to Peter Pan.

I went to the Peter Pan terminal and they have NO record of the package. They record everything that is delivered to their location - and going back to May 21 (the date the package was shipped) they have no indication of ever having received the package.

I described the box to the freight guy there and he said he would have remembered getting a package like that. And he is certain it has never been there.

There is another location in Providence (Kennedy Plaza) and I went there, too. That location has nothing more than a ticket selling kiosk for Peter Pan. And they have no ability to receive, ship, or store packages. Yet I visited them, too, just to be certain nothing got dropped.

Net result - nobody in RI who has anything to do with Greyhound's package shipping process has ever seen the box.

The copy you sent me of the claim receipt was illegible. The hand writing did not come through on the copy you sent me.

At this point, I think trying to get the money for the insurance and the shipping from Greyhound is the best course of action.

Is there anything else you would like me to do from this end?

Buyer

Thanks to the buyer for taking the time to go down and see if it was there. Now for Greyhound and Paypal, how will they handle it from here?
How will they handle it? by the way, some korean drama? Amish, were you at the Kun? Osan maybe?

When I was in Korea in 81-82 helping set up the F-16 wing at Kunsan, I remember seeing those Korean dramas, they cracked me up, They also had a lot of American shows with Korean voice overs. The funniest was a Korean voiced Fonzie on Happy Days, that was some funny stuff.
