Default Gas Engines & plastic clevises

I was kind of wondering, are plastic clevises safe to use on the Throttle Lever on Gas Engines ?? I would prefer a Metal Clevis
but try to stay away from Metal to Metal Contact.

I agree with using ball links but what if it won't fit. In the picture below, a ball link would hit the fuel intake nipple if used. I have not flown this yet but I have been wondering if I can get away with using a nylon clevis too.

It will work, it just won't last forever,, the plastic will wear pretty quickly,,, so I'd keep a close eye on it if you use it that way.

All you need to do for a ball link is drill a new hole,, 1/8-1/4" over

good luck

The ball link connection at the control arm hits the nipple above it. In other words where it bolts to the control arm.

Had the same problem, I rotated the Control Arm more forward, now the nut that hold the Ball on does not collide with fuel inlet nipple.

Like this? Sometimes you have to step away and think about it for a minute.

you can cut the excess off of your bolt with a dremel too.

Yeah, I cut about an 1/8 inch off that ball link to keep it from jamming against the firewall. I need to think on that one. I could rotate the arm a little more forward.

you could have always just fliped the bolt around, and/or use a button head w/nut on the outside

Maybe so. Now I've got to figure out the choke linkage but thats a different thread. Thanks for the help guys. I hope some of it helped the OP. Did'nt mean to hijack his thread.

Dubro makes a 2-56 bolt on ball link for 4-40 rod. They work in almost any application. Nylon clevises with nylon pins on gas throttles ALWAYS break the pin off. It's only a question of when. My occupation involves the use of small gas two strokes and any pinned clevis is avoided. They fail far to often for various reasons on gas engines.

The fuel inlet nipple can generally be carefully rotated to a new position. if they happen to get broken during the process a new one can be ontained and press fit into the hole.

Have you tried a Hayes 2-56 clevis? These use a steel pin and are great. They even come in 4-40. These are the only clevis I use.

Hayes clevis' are good, but I believe the 2-56 ball link is the ideal.
