The cleaner you use is certainly a factor, but I've found that the rag you use makes an even bigger difference. I used paper towels for a while and found that they smeared the glow residue around quite a bit while taking a little bit off. Then I tried a microfiber rag from the auto parts store and was amazed. On swipe with no spray cleaner gets all of the visible oil off, even clean to the touch. I then followup with alcohol in a spray bottle when I get home to make sure the seams are clear of oil that can penetrate in and lift the covering over time.

I use Simple Green diluted with alcohol instead of water.  We used Simple Green when I was in the Navy for everything, and one day I gave it a shot after a flying day.  Works great and I've been using it with great success ever since.

One more vote for the exact formula posted by Oberst, have used it for years on Monocote and in the past cheaper coverings with ZERO problems. Works on other stuff too.

Then I'll give Oberst's formula a try.

But what do we need amonia for ? What more does amonia bring, relatively to alcohol and dish soap ?

Amonia will loosen the glue on Monokote...if you use the wet method to apply trim, when you go back to iron the trim down it's stuck...because the amonia activated the glue....if amonia will activate glue to stick things it will activate to loosen when a rag is passed over it...usually at corners of trim....I used to have trim come loose every once in a while...went to alochol....to problems.....this is for Monokote only no effect on Ultracote

No that's OK, but thanks. The last time I tried to kick my neighbors dog when he was in my garbage, I missed and wound up breaking my foot.

It good stuff. I use it on everything including my car glass on the inside. Doesn't leave any streaks. Matter in fact I made 3 gallons of this formula for future use. It even works great with cloth covering like Solartex that isn't sealed or painted.

Krud Kutter, stuff is awsum and will not leave a film or hurt anything its put on. Use micro fiber towels to wipe off they won't scratch surfaces and towles are washable. Get Krud kutter at Lowe's and pitch your Windex, You'll be glad you did. Leroy

Roll shop towel for the bulk of the mess, hen Windex and a micro-fiber towel for a polished clean.

I use 'La's Totally Awesome' (as seen on TV ads). I get it at Dollar General for $1. Best stuff I have ever used for cutting exhaust residue. Wipes it right away with no smears.

It also cuts oil and grease, removes adhesive residue from stickers, removes stains on your cloths when used as a spot remover in the wash, and more.

Not bad for a buck.

I just use a bottle of rubbing alcohol with a spray top.  Two quart bottles for $4.00 at Sam's Club.
