Hey guys,
I understand that the RCU forum and Apple Computer have a compatability issue associated with the Safari browser (depending on your point of view this is either an RCU issue or an Apple issue). Basically, you can read any forum post and look at all links etc. but can't reply toor post messages from an iPad. It has to do with the WYSWYG (sp) editor that causes the iPad not to recognize a text input field (thatis this laymans interpretation/understanding). Tap on a text input field and the keyboard never comes up...that's basically what happens.
Two things:
1. It seems to me with all the iPad users out there and with the market dominance that device has that RCU would adapt to be compatible with the Safari browser. I asked the question to RCU technical support folks who gave me the WYSWYG answer (which I already knew). I don't know what the RCU leadership's position though on making the site compatible. Are many of you using a mobile iPad device?
2. Apple and various forums describe using an aftermarket browser like Opera etc. that are compatible...but I have tried that and can't get them to work properly. Plus, all of my forum settings etc. disappear when I try to use it. Any users out there experiencing this problem and if so did you find an aftermarket browser that functions properly?
Please advise and thanks,
Tom

I use my Iphone all the time. I do have to type a couple of letters (which do NOT appear) and then cancel the post and then re-post. It works the 2nd time. It only takes a couple of sec.

Scooterinvegas,
I think Ihave done it on my iPhone too actually. But I generally don't look at the forum on that device.
Adavis,
I am at a total loss as to why your iPad works and mine doesn't particularly if you are using the standard Safari browser. Plus you have to remember that RCU told me the forum doesn't work with an iPad for the reasons I stated. Yet it works for you! Go figure.
I sure would like to hear from anyone else that is having success using the standard Safari browser to read and post the the forum.
Cheers,
Tom

When I use the iPad to reply in a forum, Ihave to hit "reply"on the upper right of the previous post, Then when the screen to type comes up, there is an icon of a clipboard with a "T" on it. Click on that, then you can enter text in the next box that comes up, when you are done typing, hit insert. then ypu will see your comment placed in the reply box, then hit ok to finish posting. It seems that I can't just click on the text area to type, Ihave to use the insert text icon in the menu of the reply box.

Hey...now I found another way. Go to settings and change away from the HTML option. Then when you hit the Reply button, and then the text box, the keyboard comes up. But to get the letters to appear, just hit the little "hr" button and then you have full access to the regular text box. Type, Click ok. Done.
You will like this a little better.
Thanks for getting me going...coffee on my front porch these cool fall nights will never be the same!
