Default Norvel 049 engine

I received this Norvel .049 engine at an estate sale, all I know about it is it's from Russia, and theres a throttle on it, which is kind of cool. The serial #is 7010051 Do these have any value? I mean if I were to sell it about how much is it worth

Seems like I have one of those out in the garage; somewhere. I was working at Hobby Shack/Hobby People after I retired. The started carrying them, and they were so cute that I just had to have one. Never used it.

$20-$25 or so...maybe. You gotta find someone who wants it and is willing to take a risk on a used engine of indeterminate origin, level of abuse, etc. The Norvel's are common enough that they're not a high priced collectors item.

It is new in its original box, and there was a red sale sticker of $50 that seemed kinda high for a small nitro motor of the 80s, or 90s. Thats why I questioned it,s true value.

One of the problems for an owner might be getting glow plugs. They dont work with anything else. Someone made a head that would allow you to use a standard glow plug which would be real nice. I have the .061 and .079. A new one would need to be heated up with a hot air gun before starting. Their tolerance is so tight the engine is hard to turn over when new. But once run in for awhile and broke in, they start easy enough. I had to buy a 1/2A dedicated starter to start it reliably. Good little screamers when running right.

Glow plugs are available again for these engines. Re-post this on the 1/2A forum...they know more about them than you are likely to want.

It's true they are not super valuable, but I'm sure you can do better than 25 bucks NIB. Watch ebay and you'll find out quick.
