How to change the CG
I've been in the hobby for a very long time. Most kit and plans builds show a very conservative CG location. To improve performance, in most cases the CG must be moved rearward. How do most of you do this? I cut a small hatch in the tail and add lead shot until I get the performance I want. Then I glue the hatch back in and recover. I've been debating adding a permanent hatch during the build to help do this rather than just cutting into the tail. Any ideas?

RE: How to change the CG
I agree with everyone else....move stuff aft before adding weight...I have cut open the belly of an airplane glued in a platform and moved batteries further aft to keep from adding weight.

RE: How to change the CG
As a builder I get my planes finished and in the bones, I then use tape and just tape my gear to the outside of the plane while the plane is on the CG machine. I also add the control rods in there general location. Once the CG is achieved I hard mount everything. I like to make a long table type of gizmo over the CG with Velcro on the top so I can shift the battery back and forth to change the CG as needed/wanted. Sometimes lead is the only way to get the CG I want. I don't like adding useless dead weight but sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. I also keep a couple of Sub-C battery packs on hand just in case I need a bunch more battery weight.
