Default RE: charged batteries

NI types are usually 1.5 volts / cell when full.

Right off the charger, 1.5 volts sounds about right. A battery will loose charge after charging whether its used or not
Consider the battery discharged at 1.1v a cell

The 1.5 volts is the rated capacity of the battery. Most Nicad and NImh batteries will go to about 20% over rated immediately after charge. My 4.8 volt NIMH enelopes usually show almost 6 volts when just charged.
