Default RealFlight8 interface Setup

Im relatively new to RC flying. Have never used a simulator but after smashing so many airplanes I decided to give them a try. I downloaded Reflex xtr and used it for their two week trial period. Very nice and no interface problems . Then I ran across a version of RF8 hobbico edition which ran $45.00 onEBAy. I thought I might buy it and save 40.00 bucks or so over the $99,00 they wanted for Reflex. I have an orange usb wireless dongle for spectrum and also a usb cable that I 've used for my futaba protocol transmitter. I am a bit confused. Do I need to have the RF8 interlinx controller in order to use my own transmitter or can make it work using just the dongle or the cable? The instructions are not real clear to me. They seem to say that you have to have the controller to use your own transmitter. I have connected it somewhat with the dongle but the channels are all off or not existent. I probably will go ahead and buy the Reflex but is this version of RF8 any good to me without their controller? Thanks

Do yourself a favor, spring for RF9 with an interlink and be done with it.

Its way better than Reflex and RF9 interlink is more like a real transmitter than the Tactic radio that RF8 used.

Consider it an investment against future repairs.
