Anyone know where I can buy a folding starter stand? I have no idea what to actually call it, but I used another club members today and now I need one. It holds your plane while you start it with 2 poles (with foam around them so it doesnt hurt your plane) in front of your horizontal stab and holds itself in place with a stake that you stick in the ground. The poles are hinged and fold down so you wont be tripping over them.
I have no idea what to call it.
Thanks,

Most starting stands are homemade. Mine is made from a folding baby high chair that I rescued from the trash. I sawed off the backrest and added some padded pvc tubing to hold the wings. It's rock solid and folds flat.[img][/img]

Looks nice but different from what I used. It was very simple, didnt actually hold the plane. this just held the plane by the horizontal stab. I know theres a name for these things. We have a rope you can tie your plane to at our field, same concept.

Many modelers just call them restraints. Using the name "starter stand" seems to suggest the mountings for starter motors used by freeflighters so that they can hold their model with both hands and then insert the spinner into the cone of the starter which is mounted on the ground. Not what you are looking for. Midwest makes a widely used restraint and the magazines have ads for the folding type. I don't see much advantage in the folding feature. The restraint is driven into the ground where I keep my field gear and no one should be walking anywhere near it, so tripping over it is not likely.

on-ground restraint? bend a piece of aluminum rod (sign holder?) into a u-shape and stick it in the ground around the fuse just in front of the rudder. foam pipe wrap around it.
a single 1/4" rod hammered in the ground on an angle and a longish bungee cord-->over top the fuse/under the horiz stab and hooked to the rod.
cheap and effective.

Tail Trap! Thanks for the link, found what I was looking for at that same site and then noticed the banner ad blinking at the bottom was exactly that.
