From: dayton , OH,
Hello,
I found some filler in the dicount bin at the hardware store wich seems to be exactly the same as model mate or micro-fill.
My lhs is out of balsarite & I would really like to cover the plane tonight. Can anyone suggest something else to use on the
sanded filler to get a good bond with the monokote.I have a spaycan of laquer high build auto primer but Im not sure if that would be a good choice.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thankyou, Scott

Hey Guy's,
I see I had some hits but no replys. Let me rephrase the question.
Can I cover directly over the filler & have good adhesion or do I have to prime it with something? (Im using monokote).
Thanks again,
Scott

Primer depends on what you want to put on it. Some fuel proof model paints will eat their way through Rust-oleum sanding primer. Auto sanding primer will hold up well under nitrates or butyrates. If you are just going to cover with Monokote balsa rite will be fine. I've used carpenter's wood dough and covered with Monokote. For painting I've found that Krylon primer works if you begin, as you should in any case, with a light fog coat for painting. To cover with film just do it. Most hardware stores have the stuff. It has a white lid that just says primer on it.
