Default Sig Aluminum Engine mount SH477

I give up.....what does this mount have that is so special and that I cannot find? I have been told I need an engine mount that will allow the center line of the engin to be positioned upon the mid line of the firewall for symmetrical thrust. I was also told that unless modified, this basically means the vertical thickness of the firewal lwill determine my choice of an engine mount.

With all that said..... WHAT????

Any help or anyone know where I can get a SH477?

If you can't find the particular mount you want anywhere else... try www.sigmfg.com If anyone has one... the manufacturer does.

The choice of mount isn't all that hard... you just want one that FITS the engine and doesn't have a portion of it sticking out beyind the side of the airplane.

I've never used Sig's aluminum mounts... so I can't say how they would fit anything. I like Sig's glass-filled nylon beam mounts. and its OK to trim off a bt of one to keep it from hanging ut. (but if its hanging out... you got too big an engine 90% of the time... the other 5% you picked the wrong size mount)

The Dave Brown mounts will almost always work if you are using the correct size engine for the model. the round back almost never has a clearance problem.

*********

Actuyally drilling the firewall for the mount is where the problem of aligning the engine to the aircraft centerline comes in... Remember this... the base of the mounting lugs on the engine are SUPPOSED to be parallel with the crankshaft, and the crankshaft is centered between them. So if you center the one piece mount and then adjust so that the tops of the "beams" are parallel to the airplane's desired thrust line... you got it. (2-piece mounts like Sig's glass-filled beams are a little harder... not much.)

I searched for the 477 mount... Looks like Sig discountinued it.

I'd recommend you look at the Dave Brown mounts. Good stuff. Realtively easy to deal with installing the mount and drilling for the engine.

Thanks for the info. One problem I still have is I have no idea what the SIG SH477 looks like to try and locate something close. So I might still be in a quander?

Life does get better I know it does...doesn't ?
