Does any one use or know how reliable these GWS servos are? I noticed that Servo Hut sells them fairly cheep, but I wonder about their quality compared to Hitec or Futaba. The type advertised is: GWS SO3T 2BB SERVO with JR / HITEC / AIRTRONICS Z connector.

Dimensions: 1.56 x 0.79 x 1.40 inch Weight: 1.62 oz.

(6.0V)Torque : 111 oz.in

Transit Time (4.8V): 0.33 sec./60°.

I've got three of those in two different planes. Two are on the ailerons of my OMP Yak and the other is on the rudder of my UCD .46. I don't have many flights on any of them, but so far, they're holding up pretty well. There's some slop in the gears, but not bad. Other than the fact that they're slower than molasses, they're OK. I figured for $10, I could afford to try them out.

I only have experience witht he GWS micro servos (Naro?... TINY!) the ones I have are about 3 years old and still work just fine. They have survived a few smashed models. (makes the servo sound better that they survived... but doesn't say much for my stick skills...[&:])

I have quite a few like FHHuber Mostly the smaller ones. Thicker gears than most. Striped a few flying combat Zagies but that's abuse. Cleaned the side of the case off one, with a prop hit. Looked like a cutaway drawing. Now that's abuse

Thanks for the info. Since I am new at this, do you think these would be too slow on a 40 size Lanier Razor 3D. I was thinking about using them on the elevator and maybe ailerons.

Way to slow for a 3D plane and a lot more torque than you need. 3002 HPBB would be more than enough. I use even smaller than that on a Magic. With separate aileron servos I use 25 in. oz. with no problems.

I have them on a Sig Chipmunk with OS 70 and they work very well. Only have about 20 flights on it so far but am well satisfied.

GWS also makes a S03T-N or something like that that's faster, with a little less torque. If you're on a budget, you may want to look at those. I think they're .22 sec @ 4.8V, but I don't remember. However, for the .40 size plane you're going to put them it, you can probably do OK with any standard servo. (Futaba 3004, Hitec 425, etc..)

I bought a couple of the 100 ounce GWS servos and they are extremely slow. So slow that I'll probable never use them.

The gws stuff is real cheap. they work fine for a while but if you really love your model i strongly advise against it. there is a reason that other companies sell similar servos for $30 or so and still are loved by all...

I have 14 planes in my transmitter. All GWS. Average of five servos each plane. Had one servo fail with oil in the pot because it was beside the motor. how reliable do you want?

I have (and use) the 503 T in several of my planes requiring a high torque servo on the rudder. For sport flying you will be OK. They are slower than other servos, but unless you require the high speed (3D, precision flying) you PROBABLY will not really notice the speed difference. One plane I have them in is a PacificAero Gee Bee Y, 86" span with an OS 160FX. I have not had any problems at all with them.

i use GWS park flyer servos on my small planes and they are excellent,i don't hesitate to recommend them.

i have had many micro servos break gears and such just by running. pieces of gears have come chipped off and destroyed the servo

Anyone know if you could use a GWS S03N or S03T in an Ofna Violator buggy? I was thinking about a Hi-tec, but these are way cheaper for the same torque. Looks like the transit time is .27 seconds, is that too slow. Let me know, they have 119 ounces of torque. thanks

gws servos are slow as molasses and have been known to fail in rugged applications such as that. i think you would like something like this better:

I would not use them! Better to use JR, Futaba or Hitec servos.
I tested the GWS top noch servo for a Swedish R/C magazine a couple of years ago (Modellflygnytt) and the GWS servo was not up to par compared to the other manufacturers servos.
