Default Fly across Lake Michigan!

The thought has always made me wonder if it could be done? What size plane? 2-stroke or 4-stroke. (Sorry I would not entertain the thought of electric.) Where I live it is only 58 miles across. Sound far fetched???[X(]

Default RE: Fly across Lake Michigan!

August 2003 Maynard Hill flew a RC plane across the Atlantic ocean. I think that lake Michigan would not be a problem.

Manyard Hill's story can be found on the AMA Web site at:

It's an interesting story and a true accomplishment.

It has been done!

Can't really give many details, but my first instructor was from Benton Harbor, Mi.

Showed me the plane that he flew from Benton Harbor to somewhere north of Chicago.

He also had a newspaper article of the event.

I sure wish I could remember his name!!!

He passed away only a couple of weeks after I started to fly, so I never really had a chance to get to know him well.

But this was done sometime in the mid 70's

He, flew while riding in a boat and had both a fullscale plane and another boat for escorts.

That's pretty cool Chet. I figured someone has probably done it before. Stilll it would be fun to make an attempt.

If you're going to do it, then I suggest either a 4-stroke glow, or a 2-stroke diesel.
