Default Retract filler valve

Hi all. I am installing my first set of retracts [Spring Air 103 HD] and I am not sure of how the filler valve is used. There is a wall mount part for the fuse and another part threaded into that part and sealed with an o-ring. Does all of it mount to the plane or does the threaded part with the o-ring stay on the pump hose.I was also wondering how you keep dirt out of the filler fitting on the plane since it has no cover.I am installing the retracts into a ModelTech P-47.

Thanks P.J

Default RE: Retract filler valve

The threaded part with the O-ring stays attached to the hose on your air pump. I like to mount the filler valve on the bottom of the plane so it doesn't show. I have never had a problem with it getting dirty. Just try to mount it so it's not directly in line with the exhaust. Also, be sure it's mounted to a metal or plywood piece so it won't break loose. You'll be pushing on it pretty firmly when you screw the piece on to fill it. If you mount it to balsa or plastic it will crack it after just a few uses. Mounting it in sturdy fiberglass might be OK. Good luck!
