I was given an old stick type airframe a few days ago....just curious as to who made it. It's got about a 60" span, 45-48" long depending on how you measure it, the motor mount looks to be spaced for a .60 or larger. It has tapered tips like a current stick, but also has a little dihedral to the wing, unlike most of the sticks I've seen previous. Also, looks like it was built from a kit, as it has some stampings on some of the parts visible (like Front). Pic is attached below. Anyone have any ideas?

Don't know myself but there are some clues. No wing sheeting on ribs and metal ARF type motor mount. Front top hatch too. Maybe it's an ARF with the original covering removed and some other mods. Doesn't really matter; all sticks fly about the same.

I'll probably strip what covering is on the wings just to check it over--looks good through the covering though. Along with rebuilding the horizontal, should I strengthen anything in the wing while I'm there? Planning on reinforcing the firewall area, anywhere else on the fuse? Never built a kit or done anything like this--sorry for all the questions.

If it's covered with silk, then I would say that it's a Phil Kraft designed Das Ugly Stik. It was the origional Stik. I believe Jensen( or something like that) kitted the plane later in it's time. The "ARF type" motor mount is sold apart from ARF's and could have beenpurchased to revive this antique plane.

From: Phoenix, AZ,
Jensen Das Ugly Stik. I have one at home. Has dihedral built in according to the plans. I'm going to finish it one of these days, honestly, it's on my list of projects to complete.

That's not a great plains. Great plains does not have a hatch, and the bolt pattern is wrong on the wing. Also, they come with nylon mounts--at least they do now adays.

I agree with Woops that is almost certainly an original DUS and most likelty the Jensen kit. I,d bet three burned out glow plugs aginst a stale glazed donut that the engine mount is a Tatone.

I don't know anything about the DUS but it looks a lot like my old Great Planes Big Stik 40 kit (not ARF). I don't see any wing bolt holes so I'm guessing it mounts with rubberbands. The GP kit does have a hatch. Here's mine:
