Default source for 'smoke' canisters?

I saw some fairly small tubular smoke generators on a glider video here on RCU awhile back. They appeared to be self contained, kind of like rocket motors-at least that what they looked like. Anyone seen any like this?

Check out any skydivers clubs. They use them on demo runs so the crouds can see them on the free fall.
