Default Monokote trim

Hi,
When applying trim, using Monokote trim on Monokote covering, what cleaner do you use to clean the surface? One old time builder told me to use laquer thinner. Seems awful strong stuff to put on Monokote. What do you think?

You can use windex or rubbing alcohol. I use both and they do a nice job. Another thing I also use is baby wipes. I take baby wipes to the field and I use them to wipe down the plane to get the oil off the plane, then I use windex to make it shine.

Hope this helps.

If isopropol or denatured alchohol isn't doing the trick, acetone works well in making sure everything is cleaned off before applying the trim or patch. Just be very careful you are using it in a well vented area, with no open flames or sparks, it is highly combustible and the fumes aren't good for you. Monocote and other coverings are very tough chemically speaking, since they are made to stand up to glow fuel. But with glow fuel, you can have allot of oily residue left, even after you think you got it clean, several cleaning applications of solvent soaked paper towels may be needed to ensure all the oil or other contaminants are removed.

Good luck with your trim project.

OK, Thanks! Now, how about using Monokote Trim Solvent? Anybody using it? I have a 1/4 scale project that requires a trim sunburst about 8" x 46" tapering to 0" x 46". Would you use trim solvent or just iron it on?
