Default Replacing CA Hinges

In another thread I talked about the CA hinge that broke on my Mayhem's rudder.

I have the rudder removed. I've taken an exacto knife and re-established a vertical slot in the same locations. Obviously the wood is a little stiffer at the old hinge locations. Is there an objection to installing the new hinges in the same locations?

I wonder if the new CA will bond as well, since this wood has already seen CA. Any alternative ideas, or am I splitting hairs?

I always try to make new hinge slots. If they overlap the old ones a little that's ok. I haven't tried using the old hinge slots. It might work.

Hi Bosch,

As WCB eluded too you have to make new slots. The wood in the area of the old slots is already saturated with CA. If you try to reuse the same slots you will have a very weak hinge instalation. As long as the rudder is off, my fix would be to use Robart hinge points and Gorilla glue.

Bosch... I agree with Darren, The Robart hinge points are the way to go. I have never had luck with the CA hinges... Especally if you like alot of control throw.
