what starter are you using.?are you connected tru a power panel with bananna jacks?you may find that your battery and starter are enough if you wire the starter direct to the battery, you won't lose any current thru the banna plugs or alligator clips.

i used the same starter to start my 25cc gas motor as i did my 45 size supertiger i dont imagine any difference that you would need a bigger starter unless you just have a weak batter or the motor in the starter is going bad.

how old is the gell cell?as with everthing they do lose capacity with age just like motors draw more amps as they age, could be a combination of both but try hooking it to your car battery and see if it will turn the engine if it does could be the gel cell.have you checked the voltage under load?some times a battery will lose a cell and will read 12 volts no load but show 10 volts when load is applied.
