Painting monokote
I've used monokote covering since I started 3 years ago. Now I would like to attempt painting. Has anyone had any experience with painting monokote (like with lustrekote)?
Any hints, warnings or other about the process?

IMO Monokote is not really suitable for painting because od its tendency to sag/wrinkle in the sun. If you paint the surface, you won't be able to reheat/shrink the covering without blistering the paint.
For a good painted finish over an IRON-ON covering (you could also consider silkspan. coverall, etc) Solartex or Nelson Lite fabric are better options.
If you must paint over Monokote, first scuff the surface with 600 or 1000 grit sandpaper, clean it thouroghly w/ denatured alcohol and use a tack cloth to eliminate any dust/sanding particles. Since the color in Monokote is UNDER the clear film, just about any paint can be used. Personally, I find Rustoleum (enamel) a better and cheaper product than Lustrekote.

I get rustoleum at ace hardware. Also, if you want to match monokote, don't buy their TF paint to match. It isn't even close. I take my sample color ironed on to a scrap of balsa to my auto paint store and have them make me a batch and put it in a spray can. Costs a bit more but the match is perfect. TF matching color paint on my G-202 wasn't even in the same ball park. I am colorblind and I could see a huge difference. Should repaint the cowel.

If you are just paintig trim. There is no problem painting Monokote.
Just clean the surface and rub it down with a scotch brite pad or something like it.
My experience doing this has been good. I don't use primer, it seems, with primer the paint scratches more easily.
I sure don't think I would paint the whole plane.
