Default Monokote sticking problems?

I read an add a while ago about monokote not sticking, and told him to use more heat. Has anyone else been having trouble? I just bought 2 25 foot rolls of red monokote, and it doesn't stick. I have been using monokote for over 25 years and never had a problem. I was able to make it work by taking the sock off the iron and turning it all the way up, but that has never been needed before, and with the other colors I was using (older rolls) I had to turn it way down. Has TF changed something or is this just a bad batch or a glimpse into the future? I would hate to be forced to switch. I have about 50 partial rolls I use and don't like the color choices of the others. What kind of luck is everyone having with the new rolls as of late?

I have not had any problems with Monokote, though I have read a lot about white not sticking. My advise is that you either mail, call, or e-mail Top Flite and tell them about the adhesion problems.

Default Monokote sticking problems?

I just thought that I was going crazy or losing my skills. It seems like the newer Monokote DOES NOT STICK! How frustrating to build a beautiful model just to have it screwed up due to the covering. I too, have some older MKote that works perfectly. What's up with this?

I just got 2 - 6' rolls of monkote, Green and White and didn't have any problems with either one.

Maybe they fixed it. It worked, but took a lot more heat than other rolls. Strange.

Could it have been a bad batch?

Just a thought...

guess I will write it off to a bad batch. Will see on the next one. Sure like the color choices better than most brands. Have always liked the way it goes on better too.

Default Bad Batch...

I am not sure if it was a bad batch or not. I know the 2 rolls I just received, I had no problems with it and I had the heat setting set to the normal temp. May want to contact TF and see what they say.

just my 2 pennies worth...

I thought about it, but it is on the plane and they won't do anything about it now. If the next one is bad, I will do that. Will just use from stock for a couple months. Have a ton of it, If I need new colors I will order some and check it out.

I have had issues similar to this, only it was with older rolls only. Seemed to be that I had to use lots of heat as well. It still didn't seem to stick very well.

I'm having hell with some new rolls of white sticking. Won't shrink up like it's suppose to either. It's a t7ft promotional roll. Has anyone contacted Topflite? What is their response. I'm hacked.

Default monokote sticking

I know that TF dosn't recommend using balsarite but if you put a light coat on the airframe the monokote will stick better. Have you ever tried Ultracoat?

Default Yup

I use Ultracote. I like them both. This white I got is just plain bad. It won't even stick to itself! I only use Balsarite with Monokote in high oil ares like around the engine compartment.

I had the same problem with a roll of white and recently posted about it.
Flyboy, like you I turned the heat up and played with it and finally got it to stick, unfortunatly it came off about a week later.
Has anyone actually contacted Top Flite? I didn't but think I will just to see what response I get.

Default a sticky subject

Sometimes when monocoat gets old it won't stick like it did when it was new. If it is a new batch you got a bad roll. Even though it is already on the plane I would write Top Flight a letter and send along a piece of the bad monocoat and explane to them what happened. They might do something.

Monokote Blues
I have had problems with a couple of rolls of the shinny stuff.
When I looked at the side that is supposed to have the sicky stuff on it it appeared not to be there. The back side will have a little dull appearance due to the adhesive. Looking at it at an angle under the light you can tell if there is adhesive on it. Take the iron and put it on the backside ( adhesive ) side and you will know for sure. I tossed mine into the dumper since I had cut it to size and screwed up a wing. Next time I check first before cutting.
