160 FX Bearing Removal
What is the easiest way to remove a main crankshaft bearing from the crankcase of a 160 FX. I've been told heating it in the oven works. If so how hot for how long. Chopper

RE: 160 FX Bearing Removal
G'day Mate, I changed mine just 2 weeks ago, heat the crankcase in an oven at about 150C for about 10 or 15 mins, then hold the crankcase with a glove or rag, It'll be Bloody Hot, & tap the back plate end flat on to a piece of wood, it may take a couple of hits, If it does not come out heat again, & repeat, when it does come out, push the new bearing on to the crankshaft, & insert into the hot crankcase, then let it cool, by the way I use stainless bearings, well worth the bit extra, no worries about rust, Check out this site, It may help,

RE: 160 FX Bearing Removal
Chopper,
Be careful not to damage the housing when removing the bearing. When pressing a new bearing in, always press on the ring seeing the press fit, otherwise you will brinell the bearing. Brinelling is a term we use in the bearing business that means you are creating flat spots on the balls which leads to real trouble.
