Inkjet Water Decals - fade over time?
Looking to buy some water decal inkjet paper. Wondering if folks have noticed if their inkjet produced graphics have faded much over time due to light exposure? Planning on doing some with my inkjet and then protecting with nail polish or the like.
Appreciate any input.

The situation with Inkjet printers is that folks want to use the common and cheap stuff that came with at purchase time or found at STAPLES.
Go to the manufacturer site and look up what they reccomend for archival inkjets. Our county requires any document that is to be recorded to be with archival inks. Good for 100 years, and won't fade in direct sunlight.
Most local stationary places do not stock such. Our local blueprinter does, for it is normal for them. The archival ink cartridges cost about $3 more each, but get the correct part number firsthand. These also can be reloaded if you know who has the proper ink too.

If you use an Epson printer with DuraBrite inks they will not fade. The common soy-based dye inks will fade with time, especially in the sun.

Clear fingernail polish. If tried many different sealers from clear monokote to clear coat spray and nothing has worked as well as the fingernail polish. It dries hard as nails, and you won't be able to see it after it dries. Give it a try. Works like a charm

Great info! I have a local shop that does nothing but inkjets and refills. Will hit them up for 'the good stuff' next time I need refills.

I made my custom decal for my boat from www.paintjazz.com.
It is a water-slide decal printed with solvent ink....I have it since Dec last year and it has not fade with exposure to light and water. In fact, I was told that the decal is also used for car.
Not expensive too, considering you don't have to mess around with lacquering.
