Default lipo receiver packs

I would like to put a lipo receiver pack in one of my planes & would like to know if it is safe to use a 7.4 lipo receiver pack without changing any of the other components such as receiver or servo's. I have not had any experience with using lipoly batteries for planes that are glow powered.

No, you can't use a bare 7.4-volt lipo with your receiver as it is not designed to accept this voltage. However, this can be achieved if you use a voltage regulator such as FMA's ( look at: www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFBL0&P=WR, http://www.fmadirect.com/detail.htm?...003&section=58 or for digital or larger number of servos try: http://www.fmadirect.com/detail.htm?...004&section=58 ). The regulator will lower the voltage reaching the receiver to a safe level.

UH...just so you know, a Li-Ion pack is a better solution than a LiPo....and much cheaper. You can get a Fromeco 2400 poack for $35 and a regulator for around $30.

I use them in Glow and Gas planes. I think a Lipo is lighter, but you just don't need that kind of discharge rate, (what Lipos are FOR).

Go to www.fromeco.org

Jeremiah,
For safety sake you don't want to charge the battery in the plane - fire danger.
My batteries are packed in pretty tight, I wouldn't want to have to R&R it every time it needed charging - especially at the field.
Good Luck,
