Default Question about Rudder/aileron/ elev mix

I am in the process of setting up a 1/4 scale Extra. It couples to the gear in a KE, so I am planning on setting up a mix. I know how to set up a mix to fix that but................

My question is that if I was to set up a mix so that flying straight and level, the plane would fly a flat circle by rudder only, would that make sense? i.e. would that make it "perfectly" mixed in that the rudder would have no other affect than to move the tail?

Or am I just crazy?

Have you checked balance and incidence?

I'd start by mixing enough up ele to make the plane fly a straight line in KE. To maintain KE you'll probably need to hold some aileron, but I don't think you have to hold AS MUCH aileron for KE as you do to keep the wings level in a flat circle. Come to think of it: I think you'll have to hold a bit more ele to keep the nose up in the flat circle than you'll need for that KE.

Bottom line: start with straightening out that KE, and see what happens to your flat circle.

Hey Jim

Yup. Incidence is set per instructions (0 degrees). CG is about in the middle of the range. It has a bad snap tendancy with elevator, so I'm going to re-check my lateral balance. But other than that, I think it's ok.
