I have been told that RTFM means "Read The Friggin (substitute you own expletive here) Manual"
In other words, make sure you have read everything in the owners manual because it may answer your questions.

I am a teacher I use RTFM on a daily basiswith my students.
It means Read The FRIENDLY Manual. In most cases the maual will help you avoid mistakes.
A varient is WAEFRTFM When All Else Fails RTFM.
