Default Canopy Repair

Any suggestions for repairing a tear in a canopy?

I was trimming mine and I tried pulling on a cut piece and it ended up tearing up into the windshield...

I was SOOOOOO careful in cutting it out and the piece I was pulling on had been almost cut all the way off, and it was scored so I thought it would have been an easy piece to remove. I was pulling AWAY from the windshield. As I was pulling I heard a *POP* then saw where it caused a 2 inch tear in the windshield (fore to aft, slightly to the starboard side).

The easiest thing to do is buy a NEW Canopy. [:@]

Plan 'B'
Build a Balsawood replacement and cover it with Silver Monocoat.

Yeah, I was afraid that was going to be the only option. I hope I can find one. It's for a Brian Taylor 1/6 scale Corsair.

Another option is to tape the torn canopy closed, fill it with modeling (fine ) plaster of paris and make a plug, then vacuum form a new canopy. Articles I have read on vacuum forming indicate the equipment can be made inexpensively and the process itself is quite simple.

I am doing a scratch build and will be trying my hand at vacuum forming. I asked some questions about vacuum forming. Hopefully some knowledgable person will respond so I don't have to spend a bunch of money on PETG or other materials "experimenting".

Good luck! I don't even want to try vacuum forming - I'm afraid I'd spend too much time just to find out I can't do it. I've asked around to see if there is one available that I can buy so I'll just have to wait for a response.

Thanks for the info!
