Default ca curing time

I am new at this and I was told that when putting screws into wood to to take them back out and put a drop of ca in the hole and let it dry and then reinstall the screws. My question is how long does it take for ca to dry so I can put the screws
back in and not have them loctited in.

There are several types of CA. Some are bottled as thin, think, extra thick, etc. They each have their own curing time. The thin is the quickest - just a few seconds. The thick is more like 10-15 seconds. Check the bottle and it should tell you.

You can also force the CA to "set" by using an activator. Often supplied as a spray.

You would need thin CA for what you are doing. You will just need to place a drop or two on the top of the hole and let it run down. If the holes that you are trying to repair are stripped, you may want to take your screw and lube it up with some vaseline. Wipe of all the excess. Fill the hole with epoxy and screw your screw in. Let it dry and you are good to go. The screw will unthread if you need it to later. Good Luck, Dave

i stick a tooth pic in the hole briefly to make sure there isn't any bubbles to occlude the hole when the glue sets. you do have to take it out quickly though...don't ask me how i know!
drill hole, tap with tap or same size metal screw, harden with thin CA, retap. this is my usual method for 1/4 20 wing screws.

Cure times vary with how absorbent the wood is and how much is a little. I leave mine about 20 minutes to be sure.

RETRACTION !!!! In my last post I was doing two things at a time and got the set & working times reversed.

Working time a few seconds, set time a few minutes , CURE time 72 hours.

At my age I should know better then try multitasking. ENJOY !!! RED
