Yes Brake fluid works verry well. sometimes it will remove paint in as little as a few hours. i have not yet a found a plastic that will harm either.

I just found this string a few weeks ago after I had purchased a 15 year old fuselage for a Midwest Extra 300S that had a large "splat" of an unknown grey paint right on top of the canopy. I tried this method of removing the paint and am happy to report it worked like a charm. I dabbed on some Dot 3 brake fluid with a "Q" tip daily and after about 4 days noticed that the paint was softening and I could peel layers of it off with a #11 exacto blade. the canopy wasn't affected either so this really works! It sure beats the heck out of trying to find another canopy for this old bird.
