Default size or retract servo

Hello, I had a question about which retract servo to use on the Hangar 9 Spitfire. The box says to use the jr791 (260 oz torque) and was planning on using the specified. However, after reading the review by Mike East on RCuniverse I noticed he used the JRRT88 which is 88 oz torque. I was wondering if Hangar 9 was just covering their but by recommending an overkill servo or if the rt88 would be enough. I plan to put some older style spring struts (not Robart) on the aircraft and they will be a little heavier. Is the $26 versus the $60 worth the savings?

Default RE: size or retract servo

A retract servo has the ability to shut itself down on both ends of the cycle so that there is no draw on the battery power supply. A retract servo travels close to 180 degree's, which is important to set up the gear travel and proper locking of the gear. As for the torque issue, more is better, however you still need to make sure the gear moves with little resistance in either direction. Good Luck, Dave

Default RE: size or retract servo

Use the 791, it is a great retract servo. The RT88 wasn't enough power for both retracts. (spitfire with robarts). It might do alright if one servo per retract. I have a 791 in a seawind and it does all three gear with no problems. Tons of power and it will bend/break something before it stalls.
