6v for reciever

OK here's another one. Someone told me that since my B-2 bomber model has 9 servos including retract servo I should use a 6v battery pack. I use all Futaba gear. Can this fry my system or do you think it will be ok? Also what will be a good battery pack and charger for 6v? Can I get a battery pack with a futaba plug preassembled?

You don't necessarily need 6V because of the amount of servos. You will however need a pack with a larger capacity than say a .40 size plane with only 4 servos. If you go with a 6V pack you will need a voltage regulator or the receiver and/or servos will be damaged. 6V packs are used to get more torque and speed from the servos and as a little insurance if one cell in the pack goes bad while in flight, this would still feed 4.8V to everything.

Thanks for the reply Stick Jammer. You hit it on the head! I was concerned about overvolting things. My friend said that the servos will move faster with a higher voltage but I wonder how long things can last. Does using a higher capacity pack require a special charger or can I just leave my futaba wall charger on for a longer duration?

what is the highest voltage a rx. can take??i'm thinking of going with lithium battres.they are 7.2 volts. will that burn up my rx??

You will need a regulator for 7.2 volts, but you don't need a regulator for 6 volts.
Look at the specs of some servos, they are stated for both 4.8 and 6 volts.
I along with many, many people routinely use 6 volts for receivers and servos.

Most futaba gear is happy with a five cell pack except the gyros and some of the digital servos. They specifically warn against using 5 cell packs. You can use all the other futaba stuff without any trouble or regulators. If the lithium cells were only 7.2v you could get away with that also but when a lithium polymer 2 cell pack comes fresh off charge it is at 8.4 volts which is too much. The rx will be real jittery and unstable.
I run five cell packs in all my planes and four cell packs in my helis due to the gyros and digital servos.
I use several different chargers but I like the Hanger9 sure cycle which can handle 4 or 5 cells. There are lots of chargers that can do the job though.

I run 5 cell packs with MPI Niracle Switches. They have a built in voltage regulator that limits the voltage the radio system sees to 6 volts. Gives consistent servo response as the pack voltage drops.
