Default Gas motor size

Cmp Katana 140

Specs
Wing Span: 72"
Weight: 11.01lb
Length: 66.5"
Wing Area: 992sq.in
Wing Loading: 25.66oz./sq.ft.
Engine Required: 2c 108 ~ 160, 4c 120 ~ 140
Radio Required: 4 Channel 6 Servos

Mine weighs in at 13.5 with a Saito 180 and 13 oz's added to the nose for balance.

I want to replace this motor with a gasser, I am considering the SPE 40cc.
What do you think of this motor on this plane? is it too much? If I am going with a 40cc, should I just step up to a 50cc or would that be just way to much motor for this plane?

IMHO, putting a gasser on something designed for glow is asking for trouble.

I have a hager 9 cap 232 that is 73" wing. It just about the same as your 140 I have a 4 hp 3w 42cc engine on mine and it. It is a lot of fun. You will love that plane with a gasser in it. You got to know that just cuz it is a gasser that is has more power then a glow. 40 cc engine can tern a 18x8 18x10 or 20x8 just fine and a 4 stroke 150 will tern a 18x8 just fine. but it has a lot less weight to it. A gasser will do that plane fine. It mite come in and land a little hot. The 1st time up you mite want to get 3 boo boos hi and slow it down to see how it will stall. Then you know what to do on the landings.

Try it. you will love that way it flys with that much power.

Paul

Ps 50cc mite be a little hi for it. You mite end up with some tork probs.

Think I will go with Nates HO on this. The size of the plane is OK for A 40cc gasser but it's an ARF designed for glow power. Do you think that CMP has enough meat holding the fire wall in to take the bigger engines weight/vibration.
If so go for it. [8D]
I do have an RCS 1.40 gasser that would be great in that plane for IMAC flying but it's only 22cc so not A real 3-D combo.
