Default 4-Stroke engine mounts

I have a question as to what engine mounts should be used with large, 1.20 to 1.80, 4-stroke engines. Specificaclly Saito 120, 150, 180.

I Just sent a Saito 180 back because the exhaust pipe and manifold keeps coming (vibrating) loose and it finally stripped the threads in the cylinder head. I read on the Saito site,: http://saito-engines.info/engine_mount.html, That aluminum mounts may be better for the 150's and 180's? but those mounts are not the Dubro Dampening type?

I asked the Saito technician today and really didn't get a definite answer.

I just found an article in December 06 Model Airplane News by Chris Chianelli that states: "Fiber filled mounts serve to exacerbate the vibration problems intrinsic to 4-strokes simply because they flex too much and that's what causing the muffler to come loose".

If that is so, why would you want rubber grommets in the mount like the Dubro #688??? Would they add or subtract from the vibration??

This is Important not only for the Venus II I ordered and installing the Saito 150 but also for the Dave Patrick Ultimate taht I'll be reinstalling the 180 on?

Where do you get a Hyde Mount and will the fit a Saito or just a YS???

Help!!!

If you post in the Glow engine forum you will get A much better informed answer from A factory rep. It's an answer that takes A lot of finger talk and probably already covered.
I have gotten my Hye mounts from Central Hobbies.
The mount beams are flexing and the rubber at the fire wall is shifting and absorbing.
So far the best mount I have used for A sport plane has been the anti vibe mount made and sold through Jtec. I have only used it for A YS 1.40 sport mounted in an Extra but wow, no vibration at all and the price was right.
When you see the price of A Hyde mount you will understand my thinking, outstanding mounts but just too much money for A sport pilot.

I had a similar problem recently with my Saito 100 See this thread:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_73...tm.htm#7697624

At Joe Nall this year I was talking to a "Senior Product Development Mgr." at Horizon Hobbies, who was supposed to be the Saito Guru, about my problem and Saito engines in general. He stated that any Saito engines sizes 100 and above should be mounted on a glass filled mount and anything smaller you could use aluminum. He did not recommend vibration dampening mounts. Pease take this with a grain of salt since this individual never replied to my email that he promised to do. My problem was a vibration issue that was fixed with a rebuild that included new bearings. The thread will explain it. Good luck.

I only know how to get there the long way.
Go to Giant planes and look down, hit the gas engine forum then on the top of the box is the glow engines. Hit that then scrool down to the factory help for your brand of engine.
One of the mods will post up here probably and just post A direct address for you.
Wish I could be of more help but computers and web sites just boggle my mind.[&o]

Thanks,

I had the problem on the Ultimate and a 150 when I tried to use one of those 90* angle units. Well, 4 of them broke off at the threads. I had a local guy re-weld the aluminum and it broke off below the weld. Now it's the 180. It seems that any engine I put on the Ultimate has the muffler come loose. The Saito tech. said attach the muffler than run the engine 5 minutes and retighten when it's hot. I'll try that when I get it back. Along with some red lock-tite.
