Default What is Australian for polycrylic..?

Hi,

I've been reading about a covering method that uses polyester dress lining material and polycryclic or balsarite to tack it down and fill the weave. Sounded like something interesting for my Noorduyn Norseman build but I wanted to try it first on a less delicate project, so I hit the shops today. Picked up a couple of metres of 100% polyester dress lining material but when I got the the hardware store and asked for polycrylic, the guy at the paint counter looked at me like I had two heads then showed me something that was water based in a small tin for a lot of money. More expensive than dope. I didn't buy it.

So, it seems we don't call it polycrylic down here. Any ideas on what the Aussie equivalent is?

Thanks,

Joel

That was one of the threads I read about this covering technique.

I did a bit more research - Polycrylic is a registered trade mark of Minwax Products. Their website states:

Minwax® Polycrylic® Protective Finish is a crystal clear, fast-drying protective topcoat for use over bare wood, oil- and water-based stains, paint and wallpaper.

Is Polycrylic just a water based polyurethane?
