Wow ! I just reviewed some of the posts in "Gas Conversions" ; EXCELLENT ! OK, here's my deal : been flying 18 years. I just bought the Top Flite P 51 ARF, 60 size. I really would like to convert a glo engine to gas if I can because of price of glo fuel and for the "neatness of the idea" and space limitations in the 51's cowl are too tight for known gas engines, as you know. Now... I own a really old OS 120 four stroke. It's a stud. Looks like a Saito because valve covers look like Saito. Can this 4x be converted to gas ?? OR, can I buy an appropriate size Super Tigre and convert it ? I am retired on fixed income so money is an object. Wish I could say money is no object. This subject is entirely new to me so all help is appreciated.

Saito is coming out with a 1.25 gas. It's bit pricey. Most gas won't put out the same power as glow. Mike McConville says 4oz of fuel will give you 15min of flight time. The added price of the engine will more then be made up over the year in fuel savings. The FG-20 had to have a new carb made to run on gas. Somebody has a .90ST converted to gas, but the experience I had with it was mixed on performance and reliability. It's not a easy job to change one over. Spark plug, ingnition, timing and carb are just a few thing to deal with. Best of luck and let us know how it goes. Dennis

As you likely already know,I'm becoming a big converter of gas engines. I dont know alot about converting glo engines to gas,but I can pretty much tell you NOT to even waste your time trying to convert that O.S. You'd be better off ebaying it and trying to get some money toward another engine to convert like those Super Tigers you were reading about in the "conversion" forum. But even that will likely be tough because I dont think many guys have done alot of testing with them yet,but as you've seen.....some of them can help you alot if you decide to go that route. And your also right that it would be really tough to put a regular converted gas engine in that P-51. Its possible maybe, but you'd have to know what your doing and be a really good pilot incase it didnt fly all that great. Not sure how much money you'd have to spend on it,but its likely going to cost alittle money anyway just on ignitions and odds and ends and testing. And that sure is a nice p-51 to be using as a guinea pig.
If it were me.....and I was dead set on trying to put a gas engine in a .60 p-51 and couldnt afford a new saito gasser(and you'd be foolish to blow that much $$$$$ anyway).....I'd probly explor getting one of those Super Tigers(which are cheap) and going from there by spending alot of time in the conversions forum(my new favorite rcu forim) asking alot of questions. Good luck, and maye someday I might start converting those glo engines too, lol.
....humm,I have a used GMS 1.20 wasting shelf space. Maybe that could be converted [sm=idea.gif]

Dad's Toys, Jester... thank you for your responses. I do like the thought of the Saito and that is in the back of my mind. I want to explore the Super Tigre conversion a little further too. Thanks, gents.
