Airtronics 8 channel 2.4
For all you Airtronics users, was just wondering about the 8 channel transmitter and reciever on 2.4. Am thinking of going to 2.4, and their price right now is hard to beat.
Would also need to know if a person can use hitec servos with Airtronics.
I've always used Futaba and Hitec gear, but probably am going to switch.
I can use all the info you can give me. Thanks!!

For overall info on the system:
This thread is 55 pages on the RDS8000

RCKen did a review in 2008

The answer to your servo question is "Yes"
The modern Aitronics "Z" connector is compatible with the Hitec "S."
If you trim the "J" tab off of a Futaba servo it will also plug directly into the Airtronics receiver.

I've got the radio, it's great. Easy to use, lots of pre-programmed features, comfortable and looks good. The battery is crap, the switches are not assignable, there is no expo on the rudder, and to have dual rates on the rudder you need to use up one of the two c-mixes (which is OK 'cause every other mix you need is already programmed).
Binding is easy and reliable. Does not have the low voltage cutoff problems that I've heard is going on with JR. Only one receiver with two short antennae, so it's easy to install and doesn't take up much room.
Airtronics has reversed their old polarity on everything except for the battery in the radio. Receiver, servos, switches, etc. are all compatible with the other major brands out there. No modification needs to be made to fit a Hitec or JR servo into the Airtronics receiver (Futaba needs the 'ear' clipped off as usual).
Great radio at a really great price. Might not be for the high level competitors, but for sport flying and beginner to intermediate competitors it's really great.

MikeF,
I've been using Airtronics since the early 80's and have never had a problem. When I got the new RDS8000 2.4 the antenna was real flemsy and finally broke. I sent it in for repair and it's a lot better now but still you need to be careful with it. The manual even tells you this. gaRCfield is right about the battery being no good. It won't hold a charge. I swapped mine out for an 1800 pack. Nice radio. I love having no external anntena.

Haven't had any problems with my battery. Haven't flown since I got it either as the temps. are now in the minuses. I'm very happy with my RDS8000. I've been Airtronics since Kraft went down in the mid 1980s. I've never lost an airplane due to radio problems with my Airtronics radios.
