Villa,
Unfortunately, the Spell Checker disappeared a long time ago.
I don't think people used it much.
I even ran a Poll on it once and most people don't seem to care that they can't spell or type.
Makes reading some of these threads real hard.
Good Luck,

I always proof read. It can make for an interesting read if some words are jumbled up. As per spelling, there should be an automatic spell check.

Villa:
This is specially hard for non English speaking members.
The Firefox browser runs an automatic spelling check:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/product...win&lang=en-US
I have been using Internet Explorer for long time, spelling checking my posts with Microsoft Office Word, but I have just started using this other browser.

The problem is many sites are designed around IE, especially secure sites.
They sometimes don't work well in non-IE browsers.
This would mean I need to use two different browsers depending on what I am doing.
To me, this justisn't worth the trouble.
That's just my opinion, I could be wrong (Dennis Miller).

Thanks for the many useful comments. I have been using the Firefox browser for about 2 years and just love it. There was a spell checker. I don't know if it is part of Firefox or RCUniverse. A few months ago I used the Google Tool bar that someone above has suggested. As I recall, something on my computer locked up and eventually I traced it to the Google thing. I deleted it and all became well again. I'm asking RCUniverse management to please let me know if their comment, above, "(If you have problems with our new post editors you can switch to old one using SETTINGS button to change preference)" will get my spell checker working again. I whent there about 7 days ago hoping to get my spell checker back, but with the directions given, I saw nothing that I could do to get it back. Can someone please help me with this? I am from the old school that believes that it is best to get things spelled correctly.

I'm using version 8, it's got a couple features that I like over version 7. It doesn't seem to crash as often as 7 did either. (Like that's saying something
)

I am surprised that a moderator has not provided any help with this problem. I just Googeld the problem and it was suggested that, after typing out the message, right click then click on check spelling. Problem words will then be underlined in red.

I've alway had a difficult time with spelling. I went to first grade in the '40s and they didn't teach phonics. But I've always tried my best to get the word spelled correctly. My consolation has been from something Pres. Andrew Jackson is supposed to have said, "It's a damned fool who can only think of one way to spell a word." Gary

The automatic spell check in Firefox is why I use it. It works as well or better than MicroSoft does and costs you nothing, i.e. free download. Any misspelled word is underlined in red. You just right click the underlined word and the correct spelling pops up and allows you to click on the corrected word if you want to replace your misspelled word with the correct one.

Wahoo,
I am using version 8.
I can't find any spell checker here.
I also tried looking for it in Help and failed.
What does your icon look like?
Thanks,

If you do not have the spell check function on your Fire Fox browser, it is easy to add, just
1. Open Firefox, then type about:config in the address bar and hit Enter.
2. In the Filter box, type spellcheck.
3. Right-click layout.spellcheckDefault, and then click Modify. Raise the value from 1 to 2.
4. Restart Firefox.
You now have a spellchecker.

I use Mom for most words and the dictionary for the hard ones.
