r/c airplane club in Newburgh NY
I'm lookin for any info about an r/c plane club in Newburgh New York. I've only heard about it through word of mouth and can't seem to find any info on it. I believe its called Newburgh S.O.A.R.S, the gentleman I talked to had a real thick accent so I had a hard time understanding everything he was saying. Anyone else heard of it? He said they didn't have a website or anything like that but required A.M.A. However I couldn't find it listed on the AMA site. I realize this is like a shot in the dark but hopefully someone out there has some info,
thanks,
Mike

It's the S.O.U.R.S. (Sullivan, Orange, Ulster, Radio Society) I used to be their VP before I left Newburgh
Look them up on the AMA Club Finder

It's a small world... I was a member back in 78' when I was 15.... We had stickers printed up that looked like an Lemon or something like that I believe with wings and tail, etc on it.. (S.O.U.R.S). I remember flying at some massive open area... retired army base I beleive for the club field.

Yup, I ran into a guy at a local high school where I was flying my small electric plane who is a member there, he was tellin me the various fields they had and he mentioned that one. Sounded like it would've been an awesome place to fly! We talked for a little bit but I couldn't quite remember the name of it, thanks alot guys

It was called Galesville. It was a closed airport - the best flying field I ever had.
It was used during the week by the FBI to train the police in driving tactics, but we could use it on the weekends.
There was a small, fenced-in area (10ft Chain-link fence with barbed wire on top) where the FBI's office was. Our ONLY restriction was that we were not allowed to enter the fenced-in area.
We shared the field with a club of Free Flight fliers from NYC who would come up about once a month. One day, one of the free flights went into the fenced area and the dumbass who owned it climbed the fence to get it back (in full view of their security cameras).
They took the field away from us for 6 months. Then, they graciously gave us access to it again after a contingency from the SOURS pleaded with them.
Wouldn't you know that about a year later another one of these dumbass free flighters did the same thing and we lost it for good!

Sorry to hear you lost it... didn't have to worry about xwind takeoffs at that place .... I learned to fly my M.E.N Trainder there.. 3 channel uncercambered.. fantastic plane.
The club was full of nice guys... i couldn't dirve and my dad had just passed on so some members that lived close by would always take me when they were going and show me the ins and outs of RC Flying... I remember passing my Kraft KP-4A back and forth when I was learning
