I parkfly in all sorts of public places. Wherever I go children always ask if they can try! I always reply do you have $1000?

I get asked this all the time as well. I converted most of my parkflyers so I could use a buddy box with them and let people fly them. I don't reccomend everyone do as I have, but Rc planes are pretty cool, can you really blame them for wanting to try it?

I never get asked that! Just give them a really dirty look and they slink away every time!

Actually I haven't been asked that, but kids do think it's cool at the park.

When you fly in a public place, you have to expect this sort of thing. Most of the time people will clear out of the way when I explain the danger of hitting them. One time I had some un-suprevised small children who would not get out of my landing area about the time my battery was running out. I had to crash my T-28 into a fence to keep from endangering them, but that's the price you pay for not flying at a club or private field.

Get something tame and fairly inexpensive like a Hobbyzone Super Cub to keep on hand and let them take a shot. You might just create a new RC addict.

Never been asked - but then I don't fly in public parks.

Haven't been asked, but I have offered a number of times. Every one of these interested people are potential members of the hobby. Potential customers of the hobby shop. Might help keep the shop open ... for when I need repair parts.

For you guys flying in public parks ... a couple of you above have identified a real problem when you fly alone. You cannot maintain control of the flightline or runway. Just one of the risks of the game.

I offer too when there are spectators. I always have a buddy box and a plane that I can train on. It only takes 10 minutes to take someone up high and let them make a racetrack pattern. That's all it takes to get the bug started. I figure that's a small investment for me to keep the hobby healthy with new interest.

Never by a stranger but I don't fly park flyers or in public parks. I did have one friend that thought he should fly every plane I ever had but not any longer. And if this old friend asked me today it would be a straight no. He tended to fly them like he owned them and I have seen him plant too many of his own planes. The ones I have today can't be replaced.

1. $1000 parkflyer? Please provide pic
2. By throwing out an off-putting response like that you could have just snuffed a potential future aeromodeler. They got a discourteous response and a false impression that the hobby is very expensive.

Why not do as others have suggested and politely decline but maybe offer to help them when they get their own plane? Make suggestions as to what plane to start with and where to obtain one?

Never been asked. I offer to a few select individuals, 2 of 3 will say yes (oh and add my coach...)
