Default Electric motor/esc timing?

While programming my esc one of the functions it asks for a timing selection of 2, 7, 15 or 30 degrees.
What is timing? And what should the timing be on my and other motors?

Motor is BM2410-9 bell, Tower pro 30 a esc, 11.1V lipo on a GWS Slow stick.

Timing settings depends on your motor, and I have no idea which motor you have...
Inrunners should have low timing, and outrunners could use medium or high timing. Depending on number of poles. Higher timing would give a bit more power usually, but the power consumption could rice far more than the power if used wrong.
The electric forums are better for this kind of questions.

I have been building my first electric and have gotten a lot of good information from the Watt Flyer forum. The more I read about the electrics the more I don't understand. They have been a great help and some very nice people. Go take a look.

Default RE: Electric motor/esc timing?

Timing was explained to me this way. Go from default to the next faster timing, if it seams to run fine, and sound fine -good-. then advance to the next faster timing, etc until it sounds a little funny. Then back off one setting. Basically like predetination on a internal combustion engine, pinging. So I asked why? The faster timing the more efficiancy. So I've done it when I remember to. But most of my outrunners are only spinning 10,000 rpm or less. Electric assist gliders primarily.
Hope this helps. -Snuts-

Generally speaking, the lower timing settings are for outrunners, and the higher timing for inrunners.

Just opposite of what all manuals recommend...

Hmmm...maybe I got it backwards then...?
When programming my CC Phoenix ESC's I went with the default setting which is middle of the road.
