Hi all, I've been out of the RC flying world for at least 7 or 8 years but I'm just getting back into it. I just built a super sportster 40 with an OS46 in it and should be ready to fly by this weekend. Since I've been out of the loop for so long, I wanted to see if I could meet someone at the local air field (Marymoore park in Redmond, WA) this weekend and have them do the maiden flight and let me get use to it again.
I've checked the Marymoore flight club website and they have no forums to post on, so I thought I might get lucky and find someone here, but I haven't found a good forum here to make the post on either. Maybe the beginners forum, but that doesn't seem to be for finding a buddy to help me out with a flight or two. Any suggestions? Maybe I'll just have to hope there's someone down there this weekend that will help me out... or just 'go for it' myself. =/

You could try sending the same message to RCU members that live in your area.
There is a "member list" buttom on the right top corner of this page.
Write your location in the keyword box.

Mooseflier, When I was vacationing here in NC. to look for a home to buy, I just went to the AMA website & looked for flying feilds in this location & that gave me contact info to get in touch with someone here to see about flying. That should also help in getting with someone to help you maiden & reformilurize yourself with flying. It is kinda-like riding a bike, once you know how, you do retain most of it & the jitters only last a short while. Good luck. Bill

Yep... I actually built the same one when I was much younger and buried it, full throtle, into the ground. Did a snap roll and the control surfaces somehow got stuck in that position, so it snap rolled itself about 40 times until it hit the ground... pretty much nothing left.
It's a little silly on my part for chosing this plane too. I am also building a super skybolt with a YS110, as I've always wanted a biplane, but I konw they are notoriously unforgiveable when mistakes are made. So I decided to build a 'beginner' plane to re-learn on. A sportster probably wasn't the most intelligent choice on my part! =/

It's not a bad choice. Super Sportsters make great 2nd or 3rd planes. Your Super Skybolt choice is great, too. Very easy to fly. Is it the ARF? If so, I'd glass the firewall... I learned that the hard way.

The Super Sportster is a blast. I've built the .60 size kit powered by a .75-AX and had the 40 size ARF with a .46-AX. I kinda had a little mishap with the smaller one. I swear it must have been a bad switch or momentary receiver failure; there's no way I could have dumb thumbed it. That's what I tell everyone anyhow.

i have the 110s in my Skybolt and it is anything but boring, but it also flys like a trainer..........most forgiving plane i've ever flown.
landings are rediculously easy.
vertical with the YS?.........you'll need surgery to remove the big smile it'll put on your face.
good luck on the maiden with the Sportster..............should be a breeze

Both the skybolt and the sportster are kits, not arfs. So I'm curious about what you guys mentioned the firewall and glassing it. How come? What did you guys see happen if you don't. I haven't covered the skybolt yet or put in the firewall, so I can still do whatever is needed. Should Iglass just the firewall, or also the fuse sides where it attaches to the firewall?
Thanks again for all the help!
