Default servo question

ALL: I am building my first large scale ARF- 38% Extra 330- and tower hobbies site suggest that i use futaba high torque servos, is there a servo just as good but a little cheaper than futaba. I know I need high quality servos for this plane I was just looking for help on servo selection. Thank you in advance for the help. Bruce

Default RE: servo question

I would check different name brands against the specs, but I would be hesitant to go with a no-name servo on a plane that size.

Check the torque requirements specified for your plane against comparable Hitec servos, and then see if you can find them with a quantity discount at Tom's RC. They have the best prices I have found on higher torque servos, and quantity discounts on most items.

I am not affiliated with these guys at all, I am just a satisfied customer.

Good luck

At 6 volts, the Futaba S3305 servo is 128 ounces of torque. Under $35.00. That might not be enough torque though for the size plane you are talking about. I have used them with great success on a Boomerang XL (94 inch span turbine jet).

Ditto on the Hitec's, JR's or Futabas. Dont sacrafice a plane that large to junk servos, there's more than your wallet at stake if that thing crashes.

Chief Aircraft is my first stop as well. Call there and ask for Donnie, he flys all sorts of giant scale and will recommend the appropriate servos.

I always try to find sales at Servo City when buying new servos. If there aren't any deals going on then I start calling around.

I've found Cheif Aircraft usually beats Servo City in most cases but it always pays to comparison shop.
