AMA weight limit

Default AMA weight limit

Whats AMAs weight limit on airplanes? Do I have to get a special permit???

I think it is 55 lbs.  You can get waivers but I don't know the procedure.

ok. I though someone had to come out and check it to make sure that its prooved to fly.

Yes, there is an inspection but I don't know who is authorized to do them.

Best place I have seen for having a plane inspected is at IMAA events. There is often an inspector at the meets so it's simple to ask them to do it there before the normal flight times. Just contact the AMA and they can give you the info.

It's up to 55 lbs wet without a waiver. Between 55-100lbs, you have to have the plane inspected during construction and before flight by one of AMA's inspectors. You can find them in your district on their website. The inspector will also witness the test flight , before signing the model off for flight.
