Default Need to know

Is a ESC for a airplane the same as for a Heli and if so can one work in either setup? Thanks in advance for info.

There are ESC's that will work in both airplanes and helicopters; there are separate functions for each type of aircraft but many ESC's have both functions integrated. There may also be ESC's that work only for airplanes or only for helicopters. I have the Phoenix ICE line of ESC's and they are an amazing value and a great product, and have both heli- and aero- functions.

Thanks Joe. I don't know much about esc's as I have been into RC since last august and there is so much to learn. I guess it boils down to bench test before flight!

If you fly heli's and can get one that has both that is probably a good way to go. Most Heli ESC's have a "Soft Start" mode that can be easier on your heli and power system. I don't see a problem using a heli esc on a plane since I usually have most of the functions disabled.-BW

Thanks Wingnut. I hate to try and read the small print on the esc directions so I probably have to find one with a programing card!
